Gausul-Azam Hazarat Syed Golamur Rahman was born on Monday, the 10th of January 1865. His father was Syed Abdul Karim, the youngest son of Syed Mati Ullah Shah. His mother's name was Syeda Musharaf Jaan. Even before his birth, Gausul-Azam Hazarat Syed Ahmed Ullah (R) predicted to his brother's wife that she would be the mother of Peerane-Peer.
Soon after the birth of Baba Bhandari, there were signs of tremendous improvement in his parent's family and miraculously the family's financial situation had improved. This was perhaps the first visible manifestation that the new born was truly blessed by the Almighty Allah and He Himself entrusted the responsibility of guiding the people in the path of welfare, as per the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. Since his childhood, Baba Bhandari was highly particular with religious activities, including prayers, fasting, and reading Quran and Hadith.
With the birth of Baba Bhandari, the parent thanked Allah for this heavenly gift and prayed to Him for materialisation of Hazrat Kebla Kaba's sacred saying. After seven days of his birth, he was brought to Hazrat Ahmadullah Maizbhandari who took the new born baby in his hand and pronounced: "This child is the rose of my garden. He has got the complexion and beautiful appearance of Prophet Hazrat Yusuf (A). Look after him. I name him Golamur Rahman".Not to speak, this prediction came to be true. Shah Sufi Maulana Syed Golamur Rahman Al Hasani Wal Hussaini, better known as Baba (Father) Bhandari, nephew of Moulana Syed Ahmadullah Al Hassani Wal Hussaini, worked as a dynamo in spreading our Order and taught his disciples that one is not bound by custom, tradition, race, personal or social ideologies, yet capable of changing the course of human destiny.
The focus of his spiritual education is to train the individuals to know their true personality and inner values through inward training, leading to healthier relationships among human beings.
Gaus-ul-Azam Baba Bhandari received his education in different madrasha in childhood. Afterward he got himself admitted into Government Madrasha in Chittagong city. in student life too, he was reticent, introspective and he spent most of his time in the meditation of Allah.
He was first given the Quranic lesson by his own uncle and spiritual guide - Hazrat Ahmadullah Kebla Kaba. Baba Bhandari started his basic education in a local religious school and later continued his higher studies in the Chittagong Government Madrasha - a religious college in Chittagong City. Throughout his academic life, Baba Bhandari demonstrated his utmost brilliance and devoted himself in understanding the underpinnings of the holy Quran and Sunnah. Since his early childhood, he always preferred to be present in front of Hazrat Kebla Kaba. Sometimes Baba Bhandari used to stand on feet for the whole night in front of Hazrat. At the persuasion of his parent or relations, sometimes Baba Bhandari used to go back to his home but at the earliest possible opportunity he used to come back to his spiritual guide Hazrat Kebla Kaba. Being in such close association with Hazrat Kebla Kaba, and through his robust devotion; Baba Bhandari attained the highest level of spiritual power. Since his early age, Bababhandari used to go for meditation. When he used to take the herd of cattle to tend in the field, he used to tell them:
"Don't destroy anybody's crop".
This advice to the cattle acted as such that they never encroached upon anybody's crop area. In the meantime, he used to get engulfed in deep meditation. This also clearly indicates the divine power that was awarded to him by the Allah from his boyhood, whereby even the animals would listen to him.
Very often, he intended to go into the contiguity of Gausul-Azam Hazrat Syed Ahmed Ullah (R). He wrote a munajat (Prayer) in Persian language while he was a student of Jamat-e-Siyum.Baba Bhandari was installed by Hazrat Kebla Kaba himself in his own spiritual domain to carry on the torch of Maizbhandari Philosophy. This great saint had portrayed his life with the true spirit of the Islamic teachings and rare humanitarian virtues.
1) I seek blessings from thy -- the divine hidden, Nobody returns empty handed from your dargah
2) Whoever cometh to your dargah Can the person return with a broken heart? (Cannot)
3) Whoever cometh to your doorway with aspiration Of course gets the cherished desires fulfilled
4) Oh Allah, because of Mohammad Mostafa For the sake of the dignity of Ahle Abar (Those who got place under the robe of the Prophet )
5) Oh Allah because of four Khalifas, Whatever (mistakes) I have committed forgive me on the Day of Judgment
6) On the Day of Judgement please accept me with the race of the prophet Accept for the sake your beloved believers.
On many occasions, Baba Bhandari did fasting through out the year. During the later part of the night he used to go to the mosque for performing his prayers. At the age of 23, Baba Bhandari got married but his attention could not be diverted to the worldly affairs. As the time went by, he got more involved in exploring mysteries of Allah's creation and devoted in creating illustrious examples, which could benefit the humanity. Baba Bhandari roamed extensively through dense forests of Chittagong Hill Tracts, Sitakund, and Deyanghills and also along the beach of the Bay of Bengal at Kumira and Fauzdarhat in Chittagong.
He silently noticed and mixed with silent nature and attained union with the Divine illumination. He developed unimpeachable character and transcended the lure of this world. Thus the stream of nectar of his spiritual attainment showered blessings upon humanity irrespective of creed or cast. Like in the case of Hazrat Kebla Kaba, the description of Baba Bhandari's 'karamat' appears to be never-ending. All these Karamats were geared towards the well being of human race and to guide the people in the path of welfare. Many people were and are still being blessed by his spiritual power and overcome many of their miseries in life and many got divine blessings by merely coming in association with him. At the age of 71 years and six months, Baba Bhandari left this world on 5th of April, 1937, corresponding to 22nd Chaitra of 1343 Bengali Calendar Year. Countless devotees observe this day as a mark of respect to this majestic saint.
The Karamats (Supernatural Power) of Hazrat Gausul Azam Bababhandari
There are thousand of Karamots of Bababhandari. In grief and sorrow, in mental and physical illness of man , He helped them by the power of his Gausiat and removed their sorrows . Maulana Syed Sirajul Haq was the Khalifa of Bababhandari in 1932.He had a disciple at Dighinala of the district of Rangamati .The Khalifa and the some of his disciples hired a boat for appearing before Bababhandari from his village Kaokhali (P.S Rangonia ).In low tide, they reached the Halda river turning at some north of Kalurghat railway bridge at the Karnaphuli later on, in high tide, they began to proceed on through the river of Halda. The next day they reached the road side of south-west of Maizbhandar at dawn through the canal of Telpari passing the whole night in the boat in a high tide and low tide. At this time a daughter of a disciple aged seven to eight had a serious attack of fetor.Foam was coming out of her nose and mouth. She began to tremble. Her father left the boat hastily and went to Bababhandari . At that time Bababhandari's attendants were pouring water on his hands .He fetched some water from Bababhandari's hand and threw it at the girl's face . It was a matter of surprise that the girl got back her consciousness within few minutes and began to talk.
An eyewitness of the village of Bhajpur in Fatikchari before about detailed the following fact:
Among the Muslims, many people were the supporters of the Maizbhandari Tariqa but there were many who did not support this . A war of debate was arranged with the respective Maulanas of the supporters and non-supporters .A meeting was arranged. There were heaps of scripts on the tables. At a stage of the debate the two groups ,a massacre was about to take place. In this circumstance, from some place Bababhandari called at that place of debate and got up on the two tables put his two holy feet on the two tables and stood up and looking at the two sides out said " Huq , Huq , Huq." Having heard his this speech all the present people fell in passionate love ecstasy (Wajad) and all of them began dancing. Those who were at distant place started to say loudly that Bababhandari casted a spellbound of dance "Flee, Flee." People began to flee and some flopped into pond water .When they came back into consciousness , Bababhandari was not there . Nobody could find him out .Bababhandari saved the groups from danger through his Gausiat . The lesson from this fact is that there is no scope of debate on matter of love. Moulana Rumi said:
"Chhod Kitab Wu Wurkoha Dor Naro Kum,
Ruya Khudra Janebe Deldar Kum"
Meaning : Through your hundreds of scriptures and then dry pages of the same into fire, and turn your face to the absolute beloved Allah.
A devotee of Bababhandari was the captain of a ship.Once he went on a voyage and on the voyage his ship was caught up in a devastating storm. His ship was caught up in a whirlpool and the ship was about to sink.At that time, the captain of the ship cried out the name of his 'pir', Shah Sufi Syed Gulamur Rahman Maizbhandari.Meanwhile the Gausul Azam was meditating at his 'Huzra' and suddenly with his supernatural power he arrived at the place where the storm was happening. The captain looked at amazement and awe as his 'pir' hit the boat with his forehead and straightened the ship and went away. His Khadem's suddenly saw that Bababhandari's forehead was bleeding, for them he was always there he had not moved.Later, the captain came to Maizbhandar and told his tale to all the people.
